Many modern-day kids spend their summers lounging in front of the television, tapping on a keyboard playing the latest computer game or texting their friends. The next thing you know it’s off to mom and dad with the words every parent dreads, “I’m Bored”. Cure your children’s boredom with these healthy outdoor activities for kids at home to keep them occupied until school starts again.

Swing Set

Nothing stirs a child’s imagination like a slide, climbing rope and swings. Encourage your child to use this precious gift to turn your backyard swing set into a pirate’s ship on the high seas or a princess castle beset by a fire-breathing dragon. The swing set hardware also serves as the ideal distraction during a neighborhood barbeque or your child’s birthday party.

Fun with Sprinklers

Nothing provides much needed relief from the summer’s heat like a run through the sprinkler.  Keep your little ones occupied by turning the ordinary sprinkler into the center of several fun games.  One game involves placing buckets in a row at one end of the yard. Give each child a plastic cup and instruct them to fill the cup and dump its contents into the bucket. The first child to fill his bucket wins.  Speak to your kids to invent your own healthy outdoor activities for kids that are centered on a sprinkler.

All You Need is a Ball

Give a child a ball and a few instructions and you’ll keep them activity and busy for hours. Don’t waste your money by hitting expensive stores and installing a basketball hoop in the driveway. Instead, visit a local dollar store and purchase several inexpensive balls. Teach your children a few classic games, such as dodge ball or foursquare, or make up your own fun activities that stave off boredom while keeping your little ones fit.

Whatever healthy outdoor activities for kids at home you decide are best for your family; remember the idea is to keep them active. It’s easy for children to fall into a trap of video games and television if they aren’t given an alternative. It won’t take much money to turn on your child’s imagination and keep them playing all summer long.
